Set sail in style — the biggest cruise vessel in the world is all set to debut in early 2024.
Royal Caribbean International’s much-awaited “Icon of the Seas” is about to make a big splash.
It was constructed in Finland and recently started its open sea tests. The vessel weighs approximately 250,000 gross tons; it boasts the most incredible cruise ship water park, over 40 ways to dine, 20 decks, seven pools, and more amenities.
The family-friendly vessel is Royal Caribbean International’s first vessel to be enabled by clean energy.
The opulent amenities aboard the cruise
Icon of the Seas cruise will offer guests the largest water park in the world at sea, dubbed Category 6, boasting six water slides. It provides a resort getaway, theme park, beach escape, and over 40 ways to drink, dine, and be entertained, per the firm.
As it sets sail on the waters of the Caribbean in 2024, it will comfortably carry about 5,610 guests and 2,350 crew members. The vessel’s piece de resistance will be the biggest water park in the world at sea.
It will feature a rare, three-story accommodation: the Ultimate Family Townhouse. The Royal Caribbean describes this as a sprawling adventure-filled pad featuring an in-suite slide, a big karaoke station, and some hidden places onboard to explore.
The vessel’s 20 decks will feature Royal Caribbean’s first-ever gorgeous duelling piano bar, its eight neighbourhoods, and the most incredible pool at sea, along with experiences mainly designed to impress the thrill-seekers, such as Crown’s Edge, known as a fear-inducing challenge that is part skywalk, part thrill ride, part ropes course, and a unique, all-out test of courage.
The trial involved more than 2,000 experts.
Over 450 specialists have run four days of tests on main engines, propellers, and the vessel’s bow, as well as checked noise and vibration levels.
Between preparations and the trials, the crucial step in bringing the Icon to life involved over 2,000 experts, hundreds of miles travelled, four 37- to 67-ton tugboats, and 350+ hours of work, per the release.
The Icon of the Seas will embark on its journey from Miami on seven-night Western and Eastern Caribbean vacations all around the year, where guests can visit tropical destinations such as the Bahamas, Mexico, Honduras, St. Maarten, as well as the private island of Royal Caribbean, CocoCay.
The current title holder also belongs to the Royal Caribbean fleet
The current title holder of the world’s largest cruise vessel is another vessel in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, Wonder of the Seas, which made its debut voyage last year.
Royal Caribbean International has been pitching its Icon of the Seas as the firm’s evolutionary peak, using the latest technology and building on 50 years of learning via its history.
